Summary
Dear friends,
The sixth goal of Millennium Development Goals from United Nation is to combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases. Malaria is a parasitic disease with high morbidity and mortality in the world. Approximately, 40% of the world’s populations are at risk of malaria. Every year, more than 500 million people become severely ill with Malaria and a child dies because of Malaria every 30 seconds. Most cases and deaths are in sub-Saharan Africa. However, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and parts of Europe are also affected. This disease has been an enormous global health problem although it is preventable and curable. Therefore, as medical practitioners, a good medical skill and knowledge about Malaria are necessary for us.
WHO assume, in Indonesia there were 6 million clinical cases with 700 death rates per year. In Indonesia, Malaria spread widely in every island with variation of the disease infection and also the degree of the disease. Western Lombok is one of Indonesian endemic region with high incidence of Malaria cases. Looking at these backgrounds, we will hold a program for medical students all over the world to learn more about Malaria transmission in Indonesia.
SCORE CIMSA (Standing Committee on Research Exchange-Center for Indonesian Medical Students Activities) of Airlangga University School Medicine (AUSM), is organizing:
